Student mobility and internationalization strategy

The tool integrates open data provided at the national level and presents them in such a way that the region can get a detailed view of the in-going and out-going flows of students, and go down to the level of the single institutions.

A regional government with a strong interest in enhancing the attractiveness of its higher education system wants to get a better understanding of the student mobility patterns and their evolution over time.

The officials of the region want first to get a vision of what the situation is today (or as recently as possible), and therefore study the map and graphs presented below, which shows them the regional and provincial origin of the students currently enrolled in the institutions of the region (in this case, Toscana).

Are the patterns different between different universities?

Are their significant evolutions over time?

In case they want address with more detail the students’ migration, they can also explore them by sectors, universities they migrate to and degrees.

For example, when selecting a sector (in this case medical sciences) the other charts react to the user selection and display the number of students accord the sector.

Then they can further explore by selecting a specific university and the last chart reacts two both selections, the sector and the university, giving you the number of students by degree from the sector selected that migrated to the selected university.

All this features can be seen also in other years using the timeline on the top in case they want to see how the many students of that sector have been going to that specific university over time and through UNiCS the regional government can define indicators to better monitor in real time the results of policies..
